Path to the Stars

"Amid the conflict of two star nations, Lieutenant Rei Matsumoto is given a battle promotion when her superior goes missing. As more members of the ships crew disappear, suspicion soon falls upon her as the prime suspect."

Path to the Stars was written as a practice in genre fiction, mixing different genres into a single short story. Path to the Stars is set in space with a military space opera tone, but mixed in are elements of thriller, crime and mystery.

The story is 3000 words. Originally part of a novel, feedback from readers suggested I should not continue the story without significant changes to characters and setting.
